President Obama follows through on World Cup beer bet

It looks like President Obama doesn’t reject bets that involve alcohol and soccer.

Belgium Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo tweeted Obama before Belgium and the United States met in the World Cup’s group stage match, betting that the loser of the match would have to send a case of the country’s nicest beer to the other. Obama didn’t respond to the tweet, but he did live up to the challenge, sending Boston-based brewery Sam Adams to the Belgian embassy in Washington D.C.

It’s very debatable that Sam Adams is the best beer in the country, but it’s technically the United States’ largest craft brewery, so from that perspective, Obama’s gift makes sense.

The Commander-in-Chief included a handwritten note, and the last line says, “As Americans, we’re always grateful for the partnership with our Belgian allies. Except on the pitch. See you in 2018.”
