Angel Di Maria scored his first goal of his Barclays Premier League career after costing Manchester United $99 million.
The former Real Madrid winger took a free kick from outside the box after a foul by QPR’s Clint Hill, and he sent a bending ball into the box. The free kick evaded all Red Devil attackers, but it continued to bend and cut into the far corner for the opening goal.
The goal, likely not intended to be put on net, gave Louis van Gaal a chuckle as he celebrated the score on the sidelines. QPR goalkeeper Robert Green dove very late, but he is not at fault, as he was required to stay home to make sure the ball didn’t connect with a Manchester United attacker in the box before leaving his line.
Since the goal, Ander Herrera has picked up his first Manchester United goal as well for a 2-0 Red Devils lead as the game nears halftime.
