On Tuesday night reigning European champions Real Madrid racked up their 1000th goal in European competition, the first club to do so in history.
The landmark moment came in stylish fashion, of course, as Karim Benzema but the icing on the cake in Real’s 5-1 hammering of FC Basel.

With just over 10 minutes to go the ball was played into Cristiano Ronaldo’s feet who unleashed an audacious backheel towards Benzema as the duo then played a rapid one-two which teed the Frenchman up outside the box. Benzema then got the ball out of his feet and unleashed an unstoppable drive in off the crossbar as the home fans at the Santiago Bernabeu saluted their squad.
Madrid have reached yet another wonderful landmark in European club competitions, as they recorded “La Decima” back in May 2014 by winning their 10th European title. Now they have 1000th goals to their name, and counting. Will any other club ever surpass their total? Probably not.
