Eden Hazard set to sign extension at Chelsea

With players constantly switching clubs and demanding transfers, fans at Stamford Bridge will hopefully get to look at a familiar face.

Eden Hazard is reportedly nearing a new extension with Chelsea, even though his contract still has three years remaining. Manager Jose Mourinho praised Hazard’s play, saying the young Belgian has the potential to be one of the best in the world.

“His talent allows him to think about going from a top player to become one of the greats of his generation. We are very proud that he thinks Chelsea is the perfect environment for him to have that evolution.”

After coming to Chelsea from French-side Lille in 2012, Hazard has developed into one of the most important players in Mourinho’s side. His skill and vision allow him to beat defenders one-on-one and play in balls for the likes of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba up-top.

Last season, Hazard took the number 10 shirt from the departed Juan Mata, and was named Chelsea player of the year. Even with his strong and consistent play, Mourinho still criticized the Belgian for lack of effort defensively, saying Hazard was “not the kind of player to sacrifice himself for the team.”

Linked with possible moves to Paris St Germain and Real Madrid throughout the summer, the transfer window has closed and Mourinho has made it clear of the club’s intentions to resign Hazard for the long-term. His manager has praised him for his development and work ethic from last season, and Hazard is looking to cash in. Reports tab Hazard’s new contract to be worth nearly £200,000 a week, which would make him Chelsea’s highest paid player ever.

Still only 23 years old, we have yet to seen the best from Eden Hazard.
