Fire-ravaged dog home claims Mario Balotelli made sizable donation

A report from the Manchester Evening News claims that new Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has made a ‘sizeable donation’ to the Manchester Dogs Home.

The sanctuary for dogs, which was ravaged by fire last week resulting in the death of 60 dogs, have been collecting donations online and the Italian striker is believed to have sent a five-figure sum their way.

Balotelli is a huge dog-lover and once even requested his dog join him during the Manchester City FA Cup parade in 2011, which City officials granted.

The most recent donation, however, was made anonymously but the staff believe it to be Balotelli, who previously volunteered for the charity while he was a player for Manchester City. Jane Smith, a spokeswoman for the dogs’ home, said:

“Mario owns a dog but it was in quarantine in Italy so he used to come and walk all the dogs at the dogs’ home. We can’t yet confirm whether he made a donation but he is known as a big dog lover so it would make sense.”

Yet another chapter in the marvelous character of Super Mario.
