On Wednesday the opening matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage continued as Groups E-H slugged it out.
There were plenty of big wins and plenty of big teams who slipped up. Both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain threw away three points, while FC Porto and AS Roma were rampant in front of goal.

Below is a brief recap on what happened in all eight UCL games around Europe on Wednesday. Let’s get to it!
Joe Hart kept Man City in it with three superb saves but former City player Jerome Boateng volleyed home in the 90th minute (via a deflection off Mario Gotze’s back) to hand Bayern all three points in Bavaria. Bayern forward Thomas Muller failed to convert several chances while Yaya Toure underwhelmed for City.
Roma eased to victory in the Italian capital as Gervinho bagged two, while Iturbe, Maicon and an own goal from Ignashevitch did the damage. CSKA pulled one back through Ahmed Musa. Impressive display in their first game back in the UCL, as Roma will push City and Bayern all the way.
Ajax 1-1 Paris Saint-Germain
The French champions went ahead in Amsterdam thanks to Edinson Cavani‘s opener but Ajax grabbed a point as Lasse Schone fired in a free kick.
Barcelona 1-0 APOEL Nicosia
Spanish defender Gerard Pique was the game-winner as Barca labored to a 1-0 victory at home against Cypriot minnows APOEL. Messi, Neymar and co. had 17 shots and 72 percent of the possession but couldn’t score any more.
The Blues went ahead thanks to Cesc Fabregas‘ opener after just 11 minutes but Schalke equalized through captain Klaas Jan Huntelaar and actually pushed the Blues all the way in the latter stages. Jose Mourinho will be disappointed with that one.
Maribor 1-1 Sporting Lisbon
Lisbon made a bad mistake late on in Slovenia, as a defensive error let in Zahovic to equalize in the 90th minute. Sporting went ahead in the 80th minute via Manchester United loanee Nani but this will feel like two points dropped.
Athletic Blibao 0-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
Not much to report from the San Mames as Atheltic make their long-awaited return to the Champions League group stage. Evenly matched game but Donetsk will definitely be the happier of the two teams.
FC Porto 6-0 BATE Borisov
Yacine Brahimi bagged a hat trick, while Jackson Martinez, Adrian and Vincent Aboubakar added a goal each as Porto crushed their Belarusian opponents in the Estadio do Dragao.
