It’s safe to say that the new logo of Major League Soccer is a “grower” as the North American soccer community reacts to the league’s drastic rebrand in New York City on Thursday.

The new logo (pictured, right, in the bottom right hand corner) was launched, along with the idea that each team will feature the logo on their jerseys in their own club colors, with the slogan ‘#MLSNext’ used to usher in a new era in soccer’s top-flight in the U.S. and Canada.

Many were taken back by MLS’ decision to change the original logo which has been with the league since its inaugural season in 1996, as the famous soccer cleat and ball image is no more. However, with the fledgling league heading towards it’s 20th season and two new teams joining the MLS for the 2015 campaign — New York City FC and Orlando City SC — this was perhaps the right time to freshen things up.

Below are a few reactions from players, journalists and others in and around the North American soccer community. So, what do you think of the new design? Let us know in the comments section below.
