Philipp Hofmann did a whole lot right here. The Kaiserslautern man didn’t quit on the play, busted his rear end to get past his mark and set himself up for a tap-in goal from less than his body’s length away from goal.
That’s where it went horribly wrong.
The 21-year-old striker, who has scored four goals in six appearances for Germany’s U-21 side, was set to push home his second goal of the season for his new team, only he didn’t. Hofmann popped the ball over the goal from super close range and the slow motion shots don’t help us decipher what he was thinking, either.

Before we get to the video, here’s a list of things we think Hofmann could’ve done and still scored:
1) dribble it into the goal
2) pass it into the goal with his left foot
3) pass it into the goal with his right foot
4) score with a diving header
5) bellyflop onto the ball with forward force
