The 223rd edition of the Merseyside derby takes place on Saturday between Liverpool and Everton (Watch live on NBCSN, 7:45 a.m. ET and online via Live Extra) as both teams look to turn around their poor starts to the season by winning at Anfield.
Last season Liverpool won 4-0 at home as Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge ripped Everton apart. The other derby match finished in an exhilarating 3-3 draw at Goodison Park. Both teams were flying high during the last campaign as Liverpool finished second and Everton were in fifth.
However, so far this season, things haven’t gone to plan as Liverpool have lost three of their first five PL games and are badly missing Suarez who left for Barcelona over the summer. As for the Toffees, they’ve got just one win on the board as Tim Howard and his defense have conceded 13 goals in five games. All that negativity aside, a win in this match can help kick-start the victors season.
In team news Liverpool start with Lazar Markovic, Mario Balotelli and Adam Lallana in attack but Daniel Sturridge isn’t in the squad.
As for Everton, right-back Seamus Coleman is out so Tony Hibbert starts in his place. Hibbert last started a game on December 1, 2012. The Toffees have Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku up front, plus Bosnian Muhamed Besic also starts.
