WATCH: Miss bug bites MLS as Crew’s Añor draws iron from close range

We’ve seen some ugly misses over the past month as early-season jitters wreak havoc across Europe’s top leagues, with the Bundesliga the most egregious violators of scoring chances.

However, it seems the pangs of short misses have made their way to the United States, where season-opening rustiness is no longer an excuse.

The Columbus Crew picked up three much-needed points in their chase for the final playoff spot in the East by beating Montreal 2-0, but it wasn’t without a painful moment as the clock wound down.

With the score already at what we’d see on the final board, 26-year-old Venezuelan midfielder Bernardo Añor made a blistering run to the far post. Tony Tchani did the same on the ball towards the near side, and his shot from a tight angle clanked the post.  It fell right into the lap of Añor, and with Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush totally out of the picture, he had a simple tap-in to put the match completely out of sight.

Well…not so simple.
