Sturridge pens new deal with Liverpool, promises best is yet to come

Liverpool will have its current star striker around for a while, as Daniel Sturridge has signed a new, long-term deal with the Anfield club.

Sturridge, 25, has 36 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions for the Reds. The 6-foot-2 striker has been on the bench for a month since getting injured playing with England (a source of great consternation for both club and country).

Here’s what the player said, from Liverpoolfc.com:

“There are a lot of things I’m happy with how they’ve gone so far, but there is a lot to come. I’ve not shown yet what I can do – what I’m doing is just the start for me.

“I may have had some good games and scored some goals, but literally this is the beginning in terms of what I can show. I don’t feel I’ve shown really what I can do as a footballer. I am looking forward to the hard work, the training, the games and everything – and looking forward to the future.”

Good news for Liverpool fans. What do you think? Is there any doubt Sturridge will stay dangerous for the Reds, or could his new contract see him sated?
