One more year for Titi? Red Bull boss amends Thierry Henry thoughts

It’s not quite reaching Brett Favre retirement hubbub, but Thierry Henry’s “will he or won’t he” saga is becoming rather tiresome.

Red Bull director of global football Gerald Houllier had said that Henry would not be back for the New York Red Bulls even if he did not retire at season’s end.

But a day after Henry dismissed speculation during a press conference, Houllier has changed his tune. A basic translation of his quote in a L’Equipe report:

“No decision has been made. For now, Thierry Henry stays with the Red Bulls.”

It also says a one-year extension is being negotiated between the two teams.

Henry is obviously a different sort of athlete, but he seems to have some soccer left in his legs. It would a joy to keep him in Major League Soccer, as he’s become emblematic of the Red Bulls.
