Both Everton and England took a big blow when John Stones was stretchered off the pitch at Old Trafford.
The young defender landed awkwardly in stoppage time of Everton’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United. He left the pitch on a stretcher with ligament damage in his ankle, as Everton boss Roberto Martinez must deal with another injury to his squad.
“I do not expect John to be available for the next few weeks. We will assess him over the next 48 hours. We will have to wait for the medical department to assess it but for him to come off the pitch early it is definitely something.”

Only 20 years old, Stones’ stock has risen as one of the brightest young talents for England. After narrowly missing out on a World Cup roster spot, he started at right-back in England’s opening Euro qualifying match against Switzerland.
England manager Roy Hodgson has called up Arsenal’s Calum Chambers to take Stones’ roster spot for their upcoming matches against San Marino and Estonia.
Chambers, who was called up from the England U21 squad, earned his first senior cap when he replaced John Stones in England’s 1-0 win over Norway September 3rd.
With Chambers at 19 years of age and Stones at 20, Roy Hodgson will hope his young talent can stay healthy in the Premier League as he continues to usher in a new wave of young English players to the first-team squad.
