Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent has revealed that being Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent is pretty easy work these days.
“I no longer get calls from anyone asking about Cristiano,” said super agent Jorge Mendes. “It’s not worth them calling to ask for it.”
Well, according to Mendes as he told Spanish paper AS, he has a release clause of €1 billion ($1.26 billion).
That’s all? That’s all. A cool billion and the reigning Ballon d’Or winner can be yours.
The world transfer record is currently Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid for just over a tenth of this price.
Because of this exorbitant price, Mendes believes Ronaldo will retire in Madrid, despite heavy reported interest from Manchester United.
“Cristiano Is very happy at Real Madrid and has always been happy,” Mendes told Spanish radio. “ He will break all the records that are up for grabs at the Whites and will retire here [in Madrid]. United has his heart as he was there for six years and is very respectful to the fans who see that affection, but he is with Real Madrid until the end.”
Mendes also tabbed Ronaldo as “not just the best footballer in history, but the greatest athlete of all time.”
Would any club, even Manchester United with the deepest of pockets, pay over a billion dollars for any player? It would require an incredible amount of balancing out to comply with the new Financial Fair Play rules, and would likely bury a club into piles of debt.
