Just when you thought it was safe to type Arturo Vidal’s name without including the phrase “is linked to Manchester United”, here comes this from The Express.
Citing Italian reports, the post says the Juventus and Chilean hard-edged midfielder could be headed to Old Trafford in a straight-swap deal for Spanish star Juan Mata.
Would it make sense for the Red Devils?
Today’s reports in Italy claim the Bianconeri are also willing to make a direct swap for his services, and have a shortlist of players in mind.
Premier League’s United are favourites to land Chilean, with Mata likely to be used in the deal, while Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti are also on their radar.
The Old Trafford outfit spent £37.1m on 26-year-old Mata last January and are reportedly open to offers for the former Chelsea man.
A complete midfielder, Vidal would improve United at both ends of the pitch and is just a year older than Mata. And though Vidal may be out of favor at Juve, does the move make sense for The Old Lady? Perhaps, if they plan on cashing in on Paul Pogba in January. Andrea Pirlo is 35, and Mata would provide valuable cover.
But as we told you just a few weeks ago, Mata has also been linked as swap bait for a needed defender: Miranda from Atletico Madrid.
