Premier League Preview: Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea

  • Crystal Palace shocked Chelsea with a 1-0 win last year
  • Chelsea have yet to lose this season (6W-1D)
  • Nine different players have scored for Chelsea, more than any other team
  • John Terry’s own goal handed Crystal Palace one of the biggest upsets of the season when they defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Selhurst Park last season.

But with the way Chelsea have been playing as of late, don’t expect a repeat performance.

The game can be seen live Saturday at 9:45 a.m. ET on NBCSN and online via Live Extra.

Chelsea will travel to Selhurst Park where they look to stay undefeated and atop the Premier League table. However, the Blues were dealt a blow when manager Jose Mourinho called Diego Costa ‘a big doubt’ for Saturday’s London derby. Costa, the league’s leading goal scorer, has been carrying a hamstring injury but still played for Spain over the international break. If Costa is unable to play, the Crystal Palace defense will have one less threat to worry about.

For Neil Warnock’s Crystal Palace side, the Glaziers sit in 15th place with eight points in seven matches. After back-to-back wins over Everton and Leicester City, Palace dropped points in an away loss to Hull City before the international break. If Palace wants to compete with Chelsea, they must rely on team defending and counter-attacking with pace down the wings.

    What they’re saying:

Chelsea skipper John Terry on holding the top spot: “It’s nice to have the lead, but when you’re at the top everyone wants to shoot you down from top to bottom. That’s the good thing about the premier league and why everyone loves it. Teams are out to get us because we are at the top and playing well at the moment.”

Neil Warnock on facing Chelsea: “It’s going to take a superhuman effort. It’s a difficult task for anyone that plays them. You say Costa, but Hazard, Oscar and Fabregas – they’re all top-class players. I worry about our players, not theirs. If you think about theirs you wouldn’t sleep.”

Selhurst Park will be as loud as ever, but unfortunately for Palace fans, Chelsea have been absolutely dominant this season. Even if Diego Costa isn’t fit, Chelsea still have too many weapons for Palace to handle. Crystal Palace 0-2 Chelsea.
