Southampton manager Ronald Koeman: “It’s fantastic” to be in Premier League’s second place

Another clean sheet has Southampton manager Ronald Koeman beaming, his club in an unlikely second place after a summer of tumult.

Despite losing manager Mauricio Pochettino and selling off assets Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Callum Chambers, the Saints have been even better than they were the year before.

New boys Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle have been fantastic, while mainstay Morgan Schneiderlin and transfer goal scorer Sadio Mane have thrilled as well for Saints.

And Koeman is pumped up to be second in the league:

“It’s fantastic,” Koeman added. “Maybe they [Stoke] created two possibilities, not chances and that’s a great team effort.

“Clean sheets are important, they make a lot of points and we see that. We always have a look at the table after the game. We can enjoy our place on the list.

“The fans were amazing again. We can all enjoy Sunday and on Monday we prepare for Stoke in the cup.”

Koeman also called the first half their best of the season, which is remarkable considering they dropped 8 goals on Sunderland last week. Saints face Hull and Leicester before a brutal run of fixtures that includes Aston Villa, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.
