West Bromwich Albion 2-2 Crystal Palace: Baggies find deserved point (video)

Goals from veterans Brede Hangeland and Mile Jedinak gave Crystal Palace a 2-0 road lead, then manager Neil Warnock’s team couldn’t hold on despite their best efforts, as Victor Anichebe scored before winning a PK that Saido Berahino finished to split the points in a 2-2 match.

There was little comfortable about Palace’s place once the second half began, as the Baggies scored in the 51st minute, then pushed forward and found a PK to give them a shot at the point. Jedinak took down Anichebe in the box inside of stoppage time to give the hosts a chance, and Berahino finished it.

West Brom won the shots battle 17-8 and carried nearly 70 percent of the possession by the time all was said and done, and their point moves the Baggies into 12th place (three clear of the drop). Palace is up to 9 points and 16th place.

Palace went top off a corner kick from Yanick Bolasie. Eagles defender Hangeland was the first to touch on it — arm or body, though? — and, after a bit of pinballing, he popped it home from very close range.

Graham Dorrans missed a golden opportunity to equalize moments later when a missed punch from Julian Speroni and a ricocheting clear was blazed over the bar by the West Brom player.

Jedinak added a penalty in the half’s final minute to give Palace its 2-0 lead.

Yet the Baggies didn’t go away, and Alan Irvine’s side got on the board with a double whammy against Palace. Forty-sixth minute sub Victor Anichebe rose above Julian Speroni to head a corner home just five minutes later, and the Palace keeper was forced from the game with an injury following the collision.

Dorrans almost found the match-tying goal in the 62nd minute when Craig Gardner laid a quick free kick pass to the attacker, who just missed from a great distance.

And truly West Brom did everything but score for a solid 20 minutes, dominating play after halving their deficit.
