The New England Revolution find themselves in great position, leading the Columbus Crew 1-0, at halftime of the two sides’ Eastern Conference semifinals first leg matchup, following a first half that got more than a little chippy at times.
Revolution forward Charlie Davies showed off his newfound poaching skills when he got on the end of a free kick and put his side up 1-0 in the 34th minute (below video). With the service from Kelyn Rowe perfectly placed over the top of the Crew defense, Davies, who was completely unmarked on the play, timed his run perfectly before thumping a diving header into an open net at the back post.

Davies’s opener could have easily put the Revs up two or three at that point, though, after a number of chances resulting from Crew turnovers inside their own half went unpunished in the first half-hour.
The Crew’s best chance of the first half came in the 29th minute when forward Justin Meram curled a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box to the far post and off the crossbar.
The Revs have their precious away goal in the first leg, but will they get greedy and push for another after the break?
