Stoke City 2-2 West Ham United: Hammers fight back to earn point (video)

Stoke City blew a 2-0 lead at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, as West Ham United bagged two second half goals to leave Staffordshire with a point.

Victor Moses put Stoke ahead, then Mame Diouf made it 2-0 in the second half with the Potters surging towards a win. However that sparked the Hammers into life as Stewart Downing set up Enner Valencia to pull one back, then that duo combined again to see Downing equalize.

Late on both teams had chances to snatch the win but the game ended in a draw as West Ham are in fifth on 17 points, while Stoke are 12th on 12 points.

After the break Stoke continued to be the better side and Diouf made it 2-0 when Jonathan Waters got free down the right and crossed for the Senegalese forward to head home. The Potters were flying and Moses curled an effort just wide of the far post as the home fans urged them on.

However, just when Stoke seemed to be running away with things, West Ham grabbed themselves a lifeline. Stewart Downing surged down the right flank and curled in a cross to the far post which Valencia headed home to make it 2-1. Game on.

Late in the game Diouf spurned a great chance to grab his second and Stoke’s third of the match but he couldn’t connect on a set piece from the left. And the Potters were to rue that missed opportunity as Valencia broke free down the left and Downing popped up on the edge of the box to smash the ball home. 2-2. Comeback complete.

West Ham almost went ahead in the final 10 minutes as Valencia was set clear in the box but he was forced wide by Stoke ‘keeper Asmir Begovic and the chance came and went. U.S. national team defender Geoff Cameron had a great chance late in the game but couldn’t get enough power on his effort as Adrian tipped the ball wide. A thrilling draw at the Britannia.
