A month off seeing themselves bottom of the table and embroiled in a managerial crisis, Newcastle has suddenly won four games in a row, and 21-year-old Spaniard Ayoze Perez has been at the heart of that revival.
Today, with Newcastle and West Brom stuck goalless at the Hawthornes, Perez registered an absolute beauty.
Darryl Janmaat sent in the first of his two assists low across the box, and Perez came streaking through to meet the ball. With the rabona goal becoming a fad after Erik Lamela’s incredible Europa League strike, Perez rabona’d the ball but not entirely, choosing to redirect it instead of firmly hit it, and the ball tucked perfectly into the far corner.
It sent Newcastle ahead for good, and Janmaat’s second assist would find Fabricio Coloccini at the far post for a header and a 2-0 lead that would see out the game.
Having signed from Spanish 2nd division club Tenerife in the summer, the goal is Perez’s third in his last three games, and all three have been the eventual winner. Needless to say, this beauty is in contention for Premier League goal of the season.
