Real Sociedad unveils David Moyes as manager

Real Sociedad unveiled David Moyes as its new manager at a press conference, and there was a clear theme: his head.

First, the presser was backgrounded by a giant shot of the 51-year-old’s mug, casting a creepy aura to the entire event.

Then, Moyes spoke like the entire new job has gone to his head.

After being asked by a reporter whether he thought he was more like former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola or former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho (which is a ridiculous question in the first place, and totally deflectable for Moyes), he proceeded to state he was more like Mourinho.

“Probably more Mourinho,” Moyes replied. “I’m tough with players and like to work hard. But I’m looking forward to it. I want to take the challenge of getting the team back to the top end of the league.”

Sure, David.

With La Real (which Moyes initially referred to as “La Sociedad” before someone from the club corrected him) in 15th place i n the Spanish league table, he has a massive task in front of him to keep the club afloat in La Liga.

“I had a great 11 years at Everton … a club very similar to this,” Moyes said. “I took over [at Goodison Park] and grew it and it got better and better. I am hoping I can do the same here. From all the vibes and messages I am getting I don’t see why I can’t do it.”

Prior to the unveiling, Moyes took charge of his first training session at Zubieta training ground at the club’s academy.
