Liverpool fans, this is not good news.

After not featuring since a thigh injury in August, numerous reports are suggesting that striker Daniel Sturridge has suffered yet another setback during his recovery.

The English forward initially suffered a thigh strain on international duty which kept him out for a month and just as he was about to return for Liverpool against QPR in October, Sturridge injured his calf.

And now just as Sturridge, 25, was set for his long-awaited return for Liverpool this Sunday against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park (Watch live, 8:30 a.m. ET on CNBC and online via Live Extra), he has once again injured his thigh. The former Chelsea and Manchester City star will apparently undergo a scan on Wednesday to assess the full extent of the damage.

With Mario Balotelli yet to score in the Premier League following his $26 million move from AC Milan this summer and Rickie Lambert used sparingly, the Reds have lost all of their offensive output from their prolific 2013-14 season where they scored 101 goals in the PL. After selling Luis Suarez and having Sturridge sidelined for most of the campaign so far, they are struggling for goals. Big time.

As Brendan Rodgers’ men languish in 11th place on 14 points after a nightmare start, Sturridge injuring himself for the third time this season compounds the Merseyside clubs early-season misery.

The strong correlation between his absence and Liverpool’s poor start to the campaign is there for all to see.
