Arsene Wenger: Gunners to buy during transfer window

There may be one thing Gunners fans hate more than Tottenham: Injuries.

Arsenal has been plagued by injuries all season long, hitting every position from goalkeeper to striker.

While Arsenal fans welcomed back Olivier Giroud after recovering from ankle surgery last week, their cheers turned to groans as Jack Wilshere went down with an injury against Manchester United.

Then in their midweek Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, captain Mikel Arteta and striker Yaya Sanogo were both substituted after suffering muscle injuries.

For manager Arsene Wenger, his 18th year in charge of Arsenal is off to a rough start as the long list of injuries have caused a dip in form for the Gunners. With his job security coming into question, Wenger said the club will look to the January transfer window to bring in new players.

Szczesny has not practised yet at all. Arteta is out for sure of course and I think Sanogo has problems as well because I had to take him off. We have a few other players that we have to check.

We have gone through a period where we are very short but we discovered as well that players have learnt their job well in the centre back position, like (Nacho) Monreal and he is doing very well now. In January we will of course try to get at least one body in.”

Heading into Saturday’s match against West Brom, Arsenal’s injury list looks like this: Szczesny, Welbeck, Sanogo, Ozil, Debuchy, Diaby, Ospina, Arteta, Wilshere, Walcott and Gnarby. Ouch.

Despite spending over $100 million in the summer transfer window, it looks like Arsenal will have to dish out some more dough come the new year.
