Aaron Cresswell’s second-half goal pushed West Ham United ahead of 10-man Newcastle United on the scoreboard and the table as the Irons picked up a 1-0 win at home.
Moussa Sissoko picked up a 76th minute red card after a pair of petulant yellow cards within a span 55 seconds for Newcastle.
That was a wrap for the Magpies, who dropped to 8th with 19 points. The Hammers move up to 5th with 21 points.

Ayoze Perez almost opened the scoring in the third minute, but his turn-and-fire was wide of the left post.
But West Ham found the front foot for most of the next stanza of play, worrying Newcastle’s back line though not really testing Magpies backup goalkeeper Rob Elliot.
James Tomkins almost had to be removed when Andy Carroll’s attempted flying clearance ended with a kick to his defender’s head.
Perez was a big part of almost any threat Newcastle posed in the first 45 minutes, but mostly it was the home side who worked the ball effectively.
And he continued to threaten in the second half, traded unsuccessful chances with Stewart Downing to start the final 45.

But it was Cresswell who found the match’s first goal, darting past Cheick Tiote to poke home a great pass from Cheikhou Kouyate for the opener. Elliot was caught awkward by the shot to make it 1-0.
And Sissoko picked up two childish yellow cards in the 76th minute to make Newcastle’s task even more difficult. The first was for kicking a ball after the whistle, and the second for shoving a prone Carroll to the turf.
Mike Dean would not return the favor to Newcastle when Morgan Amalfitano made a horrific-looking tackle on Massadio Haidara moments later. It was just a yellow, and Haidara was led off the pitch. Newcastle would play several minutes with nine men, but pushed the pace for an equalizer nonetheless. It wouldn’t come.
