Ronald Koeman has heard plenty about Southampton’s difficult stretch of matches, but with Arsenal and Manchester United remaining on the schedule for the next two, he’s not sounding the alarm bells.
However, he isn’t very happy either.
“There’s a test in every game,” Koeman said when asked about the upcoming slate. “We have a good team, we have to work hard, and we have to learn from today. You can’t do [sic] that kind of mistakes because the quality of the opponent is high and they will punish you for that…That’s the message to the players.”
With Southampton coming into this game in second place, they’d only played members of last season’s top seven just twice, losing both. But Koeman believes matches can’t be lumped together, and all is not lost after building such a promising start to the season.
“It’s only three points, Wednesday is a new game, and we have to work hard to win,” Koeman insisted.
While each game is an individual entity, the stretch of tough fixtures comes at a tough time. As Koeman alluded to, this week sees three matches take place, and the short turnaround will make it harder still for Southampton to recover in time.
