The arguable engine of the United States women’s national team has risen about the star-power of her teammates’ names to win United States women’s national player of the year.
Lauren Holiday has been absolutely fantastic for the States, and won ahead of Abby Wambach, Christen Press, Sydney Leroux and Carli Lloyd.
And while Wambach is a nominee for the FIFA Ballon d’Or, her country recognized Holiday as its top performer. The FC Kansas City star playmaker logged 1261 minutes for the USWNT this year.

Wambach won the award in 2010, 2011 and 2013, with Alex Morgan winning the other award.
Now let’s hope that, should they ever have kids, Holiday and her husband produce a soccer player, not a basketballer (Jrue Holiday is the star point guard of the New Orleans Pelicans).
