On a busy Wednesday across the UEFA Champions League, plenty of loose ends were tied up.

Manchester City did the unthinkable and won in Rome to qualify, while Schalke followed suit and there were some big wins for European soccer’s heavyweights.

GROUP E

AS Roma 0-2 Manchester CityRECAP

Goals from Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta sealed City’s passage into the last 16 of the Champions League.

Bayern Munich 3-0 CSKA Moscow

Thomas Muller, Mario Gotze and Sebastian Rode were on the scoresheet as Bayern had already sealed top spot in Group E.

GROUP F

Barcelona 3-1 Paris Saint-Germain

Zlatan Ibrahimovic put PSG ahead but Lionel Messi equalized and then goals from Neymar and Luis Suarez put Barca top of the group.

Ajax 4-0 APOEL Nicosia

The Amsterdam side eased into the Europa League as Lasse Schone scored twice, plus goals from Davy Klaassen and Arkadiusz Milik did the damage.

GROUP G

Chelsea 3-1 Sporting LisbonRECAP

Early goals from Cesc Fabregas and Andre Schurrle set Chelsea on their way, as they’ve already won Group G. John Obi Mikel added another after Silva pulled one back for Sporting, as Mourinho mixed up his squad and got the win.

Maribor 0-1 Schalke

Roberto Di Matteo guided the Bundesliga side into the last 16 as Max Meyer scored a second half winner to play the hero.

GROUP H

FC Porto 1-1 Shakthar Donetsk

Porto had already won the group and Shakhtar have wrapped up second spot, but Stepanenko put the visitors ahead before Aboubakar equalized for Porto.

Athletic Bilbao 2-0 BATE Borisov

Bilbao won the battle for a Europa League spot as Mikel San Jose and Markel Susaeta grabbed the goals.
