Cristiano Ronaldo scores and Real Madrid wins. Where have we heard that before?

It was nothing new in Spain as Real defeated Almeria 4-1 for their 20th straight win in all competitions in a match that was closer than the scoreline indicates.

Madrid led 2-1 at halftime through goals from Isco and Gareth Bale, but it was keeper Iker Casillas who saved the day for the league-leaders.

Almeria was awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute, but Casillas denied Verza’s strike with a fine save.

Verza’s miss proved costly as Cristiano Ronaldo continued his ridiculous season, scoring twice in the final ten minutes to earn Real three points. Ronaldo now has 25 goals in 14 La Liga matches, and 32 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions.

With 20 straight wins, Real Madrid are now four wins shy of breaking the world record, set by Brazilian side Coritiba in 2011. The loss dropped Almeria to 19th place in La Liga, one spot off the bottom of the table.

Real doesn’t play another La Liga match until January 4th, as the squad prepares to travel to Morocco for the FIFA Club World Cup. They will play either Cruz Azul or Western Sydney Wanderers in a match that looks like win number 21 for the Spanish giants.
