VIDEO: Ross Barkley’s thunderbolt an Everton wonder

Neutrals who sat through the doldrums of the first 25 minutes at Goodison Park were justly rewarded.

Ross Barkley, who exploded onto the mainstream scene last season, has found this year less fruitful, but he finally put his goalscoring duck behind him this afternoon. After slicing up the QPR midfield, the 21-year-old (just passing that mark three days ago) ripped a thunderbolt into the top corner, aided ever-so-slightly by a nick off Mauricio Isla’s back and leaving Robert Green no chance.

The match returned to a cagey affair following the goal, but the home side would earn a free kick via Joey Barton, and Kevin Mirallas would use a much more prominent deflection to bury the free kick into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead just two minutes before halftime.
