Final rankings of 2014 released by FIFA, as USA climb one place


Despite not playing a game since the last FIFA rankings were released in November, the U.S. national team have ended the year on a high.

Jurgen Klinsmann’s side finish 2014 in 27th place in the FIFA world rankings, as Germany rounds off a tremendous year in top spot after lifting the World Cup in Brazil in July. Germany gained 407 points in 2014, more than any other nation, while the other big winners in 2014 were Slovakia and Belgium.

Europe had 30 teams in the top 50, up six from last year, while Africa had 11 teams in the upper echelons which was two more than 2013. CONCACAF (3), CONMEBOL (6) and AFC (0) all had two fewer teams in the top 50 than at this time last year.
