An enormous fixture for the league futures of these two clubs sees Arsenal travel to Anfield looking to sink Liverpool’s European hopes even further into the dark.
Liverpool will play hosts to another team scrambling to recover positions in the table, live from Anfield at 10am ET on NBCSN or live online at NBC Sports Live Extra.
It’s an important three points for the Gunners as well, as they have dropped below rivals Tottenham into seventh position in the table, and they could leapfrog them back into sixth with a win, which would keep pace with Southampton and West Ham, who both won.
The Gunners come to North West England with a lineup bursting with attacking power, as Danny Welbeck, Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all start. Mathieu Debuchy will again partner Per Mertesacker in central defense, having performed well there last weekend despite being played out of his usual position.
Brendan Rodgers, meanwhile, has been left scrambling with a number of important players missing out. Dejan Lovren finds himself left out, unable to return to fitness following an injury in cup play midweek. The Reds also miss Mario Balotelli through suspension, and instead of replacing him with Rickie Lambert or Fabio Borini, Rodgers has decided to play without a striker in the lineup.
Rodgers has also continued with Simon Mignolet’s benching, still preferring Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones between the posts despite a season debut performance last weekend that left much to be desired.
Liverpool: Jones, Toure, Skrtel, Sakho, Lucas, Henderson, Markovic, Coutinho, Gerrard, Lallana, Sterling.
Bench: Mignolet, Enrique, Lambert, Moreno, Manquillo, Can, Borini.
Arsenal: Szczesny, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Gibbs, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Alexis, Giroud, Welbeck.
