It is official, DeAndre Yedlin will link up with his new club Tottenham Hotspur in January.

However with the MLS season now over, Yedlin was not due to turn up at Spurs until the summer of 2015 ahead of the 2015-16 Premier League season but Tottenham have decided to bring over the young American right back earlier than expected.

In a statement on the club website, manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke about the “great potential” of the Washington native after the pacey full back burst onto the scene over the past 12 months with Seattle and the U.S. national team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“DeAndre is a young player with great potential who has already achieved a lot in Major League Soccer,” Pochettino said. “It is important for his development that he is given the time to adapt to his new surroundings both on and off the pitch and we believe that by coming to us in January it will give him the best opportunity to do so.”

Speaking about Yedlin to reporters in his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Pochettino didn’t confirm that Yedlin will become a first-team player right away but is eager for the talented 21-year-old to settle into his new surroundings.

“He is still young and has a lot of potential,” Pochettino said. “He is very fast and we believe that he is a player that has potential to play with us. We will see… The first thing is for him to arrive, adapt to the group and a new culture, different football and a new pressure. When a new players arrives in this period in January, with his profile, they always need time to adapt to a new club.”
