Louis van Gaal has faced an unprecedented amount of injuries, but it’s not as simple as it sounds.
Not only is the first-year Manchester United boss dealing with players who are unavailable, but he’s also trying to manage players who can’t recover in time for multiple games in a row.
“For a few players it is fine because they recover very quickly, but you also have players who are not recovering very quickly, so I have to rotate. But my problem is I have a lot of injured players.”
Fitness and recovery is becoming a tough task for Louis van Gaal this season, and Manchester United isn’t even playing a European schedule. Manchester United hosts a stuttering Newcastle squad on Boxing Day, and will follow that up with a pair of away fixtures at Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City.
Van Gaal also lamented the double-edged sword that comes from the support of former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He appreciated the backing of Ferguson as well as other former Manchester United figures, but also noted there is pressure associated with that because he feels the need to validate that support.
