ProSoccerTalk’s Joe Prince-Wright joins Jenna Corrado to discuss one of the marquee Premier League matchups on New Year’s Day: Tottenham vs. Chelsea.
JPW thinks that Spurs could muster more than a point against Chelsea in this one, if certain factors work out in Tottenham’s favor.
These two sides last met on Dec. 3 at Stamford Bridge, where the Blues cruised to a 3-0 victory.
“Poor defensive errors handed Chelsea the win [in the last match between these sides],” said Prince-Wright. “Since then, they’ve only conceded four goals in seven matches, and that’s been down to a new central defensive partnership in Jan Vertonghen and Federico Fazio. Spurs have really tightened up at the back.”
Tottenham’s capacity to come away with the win on home turf could hinge on the performance of summer signing Christian Eriksen, who leads his squad with seven goals this year.
“Eriksen is quietly becoming a hero at White Hart Lane. His goals have actually won Spurs 11 points this season. That’s more points than any other player has won their team in the entire Premier League.”
The contest will take place at 12:30 PM ET tomorrow, live on NBCSN.
