In an interview with LFC TV on Saturday, the club’s in-house television station, Gerrard has spoken about his plans to sign for a team in the USA.
“I can tell the supporters at the moment that it will be America,” Gerrard said. “I’ll be going to play in America. But I’m not over the line with any team just yet. I’m close and as soon as I know, I’ll make the announcement, I’ll do the bits and bobs that I need to do. Then we try to go and win a trophy and forget about Steven Gerrard for a bit.”
Now, where will he go?
The LA Galaxy continues to be the favorite to sign Gerrard, 34, as they have an open Designated Player spot with Landon Donovan retiring and plenty of cash to entice the Liverpudlian to swap Merseyside for California. But other options for ‘Stevie G’ are New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls according to several murmurs and pure logic as to the wages he will demand and which club’s in North America’s top-flight can afford him.
Other teams in the USA who could potentially afford Gerrard are the New York Cosmos of the NASL, but ProSoccerTalk understands that Gerrard will be heading to Major League Soccer this summer.

With one of the finest midfielders of his generation heading to the U.S., Gerrard’s arrival will mimic that of David Beckham and Thierry Henry in the past. A huge global name and brand, the Liverpool captain will help the profile of MLS and soccer in America grow further. There’s no doubt about that. During Liverpool’s preseason tour in the U.S. last summer, Gerrard and many of his teammates were said to be blown away by the support of soccer fans in North America.
Now we know that Gerrard’s next destination will be the USA, let’s see where he lands.
