The Minnesota native was involved in a heavy collision in just the second minute of Saints’ 2-1 win against Fulham at Motspur Park and had to be treated for a lengthy spell on the pitch before the 21-year-old was taken to hospital.

10 minutes of injury time were added to the first half as the head coach of Southampton’s development squad, Martin Hunter, shared his concerns about Cropper’s condition.

“Unfortunately there have been two bad injuries, one to Cody and unfortunately their number eight has fractured his ankle, so that’s put a sour note on what was a good performance,” Hunter said. “All our thoughts are with Cody at the moment.”

The Southern Daily Echo in Southampton have reported that Cropper “took a heavy blow to the head and the game was stopped for almost ten minutes as he received extensive treatment on the pitch.” The publication also stated that “the decision was quickly taken to get Cropper to hospital for immediate tests and x-rays in a bid to discover the extent of the damage with Saints officials heading to visit him late after the game. No further details of his condition have been released.”

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel after the game, Southampton’s Jack Cork revealed the magnitude of the injury to Cropper.

“I hope he is alright because it was nasty,” Cork said. “It looked really serious and it was nasty. I just hope he is okay.”

Plenty of Cropper’s teammates also took to Twitter to share their thoughts with the America ‘keeper.

Cropper has been called into the U.S. national team setup by Jurgen Klinsmann on several occasions, plus guarded the net for the USA at the U-20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013 and is widely expected to be involved in the USA’s Olympic team in Rio. He is a star in the making after spending his entire youth and professional career in England with Ipswich Town and Southampton.

PST have contacted Southampton to get the latest on Cropper’s condition and are awaiting a reply.
