Despite MLS move, Steven Gerrard could return to Premier League on loan

Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard will head to the LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer in July after the 34-year-old signed an 18-month contract earlier this month.

However, according to high-ranking official at Liverpool, don’t rule out Gerrard returning to Anfield and the Premier League on loan while he is in MLS.

Ian Ayre, Liverpool’s long-time chief executive, told radio station City Talk that talks have already been held with Gerrard and his reps about their current skipper heading back to the PL on loan during his time in LA.

“It’s conceivable. It happens a lot in MLS and it’s something we talked to Steven and his representatives about. You can’t have someone who has so much of the club’s DNA in them and just expect that it will go away.”

So, despite LA Galaxy’s club president Chris Klein already saying that Gerrard going back to England on loan wasn’t mentioned during their contract negotiations, these comments from Ayre suggest that it could well happen.

Ayre also went on to say that Gerrard will always be a part of the Liverpool family and that they will stay in constant contact with him so he can become a part of the club in the long term.

Galaxy fans, after the furor surrounding David Beckham’s loan spells back to AC Milan during his MLS career, would you be okay with ‘Stevie G’ heading back to Liverpool or perhaps another club in Europe during the MLS offseason?

Could we see another loan extension a la Beckham or Frank Lampard happen with Gerrard? Given the recent uproar involving Lampard’s loan move, albeit in a more complicated instance, Gerrard’s situation needs to be clarified rather sharply.
