Fernando Torres’s second go-round with Atletico Madrid got off to a bit of a slow start as the 30-year-old forward struggled and failed to score in his first two appearances last week for the club, but was quick to reintroduce himself to the rival Santiago Bernabeu crowd on Thursday as he scored a first-minute goal (below video) in Atletico’s Copa del Rey round of 16 second-leg game against Real Madrid.
Antoine Griezmann provided the cross that somehow evaded Real defender Sergio Ramos and fell to Torres eight yards from goal. Torres made no mistake with his first-touch finish and curled the ball far post, upper-90.
The goal put Atletico up 3-0 on aggregate, including a vital away goal, which serves as the tiebreaker in Copa del Rey play. Ramos has since scored a goal of his own, bringing Real back into the tie, down 3-1 with an hour to play. More updates on PST after the game.
