Spurs took the lead after just three minutes as Vertonghen’s effort from the edge of the box was deflected past Costel Pantilimon.

Sunderland were on the backfoot after going behind early on as Spurs continued to pour forward in search of a second, but the Black Cats should have equalized when Billy Jones whipped in a delightful cross but Steven Fletcher could convert the chance. Soon after Sunderland were level as Larsson curled in a delightful free kick straight into the top corner to make it 1-1.

Before the break Harry Kane hit the post then Danny Rose saw his rebound saved as Sunderland held on. In the second half Eriksen smashed a low shot just past the post, as the Black Cats sat in and parked two banks of four in front of their goal to try and secure a point on the road.

Adam Johnson then had a glorious chance for Sunderland but hit his shot straight at Hugo Lloris as Spurs continued to press late in the game.

That pressure paid off as Eriksen popped up to score winner late on, as the Danish attacker has now single-handedly won 13 points for his side this season. Delight for Spurs, heartbreak for Sunderland as Danny Graham was denied by Lloris late on.
