Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez provided the service, and Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed the headlines.

That’s about par for the course this season as Real Madrid thumped Getafe 3-0 on its way to opening back up a four-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.

Being (reportedly) single hasn’t stunted the unprecedented season shown by Real Madrid’s ace, as Ronaldo bagged another two goals, both poached off hard work from his teammates. The brace pushes the 29-year-old’s goal total to an unprecedented 28 goals in 19 matches, a full 12 ahead of counterpart Lionel Messi in a distant second.

The aforementioned pair each assisted one of Ronaldo’s two goals, with Benzema working along the baseline and cut the ball past Elche goalkeeper Jordi Codina into the middle of the box for Cristiano to poke home with ease with the amazing precision of a world-class striker.

Gareth Bale, rumored to be sold in exchange for Marco Reus (stupidly), bagged the second for Madrid thanks to an assist from James. The Colombian would snatch a second assist with a pinpoint cross for Ronaldo to head home uncontested perfectly past Codina.

It truly is amazing how Ronaldo produces despite being an afterthought is most of the buildup, and yet he remains absolutely ruthless in front of goal. He received five successful passes in the box, three of which produced a shot on target, and two ended up in the back of the net. Meanwhile, Rodriguez and Toni Kroos completed 128 passes between them for an 87% success rate, pushing Getafe into mistakes in its own half.

This team, while obviously not infallable as their cross-town neighbors have proven, is a giant on the European stage, and if they can figure out how to defend on a consistent basis, is without a doubt the favorites to repeat at Europe’s most prestigious tournament. And it all ends at the feet of Cristiano Ronaldo.
