The semifinals of the Capital One Cup kick off on Tuesday, and we have a biggie to look forward to at Anfield.

Liverpool host Premier League leaders Chelsea, with the Reds having plenty of success against the Blues in cup competitions in the past, especially at home.

Jose Mourinho has already recalled Luis Garcia’s famous ghost goal from the 2005 UEFA Champions League semifinals which saw Liverpool beat Chelsea 1-0 despite an effort which didn’t look to go over the line being given as a goal. Yeah, Mourinho is still bitter about that. With Chelsea challenging for all four trophies on offer and knowing a good defensive display at Anfield will set them up for a home tie in the second leg of the semi, Liverpool have to go at the them. Should be a cracker as both teams are two games away from the final at Wembley, plus Mourinho’s antics on his last trip to Anfield (Gerrard’s slip, Chelsea’s ultra-defensive display and his overzelaous celebrations) didn’t win him many friends. Drama.

Elsewhere another PL side must feel they’re even close to making a major cup final, as Tottenham Hotspur host League One Sheffield United in the first leg of their semifinal at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. Spurs, currently sixth in the PL and challenging for a top four spot, are up against third-tier United who shocked everyone by beating Southampton in the quarterfinals of the League Cup. If they can grab a draw or a narrow defeat in north London in the first leg, Bramall Lane will come alive for the second leg and Spurs could be the Blades’ third PL scalp of the competition after Saints and West Ham. Upset alert indeed.

Below are the dates and times for the semifinals this week, as the second legs will take place on Jan. 27-28, as you can follow the matches live by clicking the link above.
