Paul Pogba seems to be a “transfer target” year in and year out, but for now he’s a Juventus player, and they’re much better for it.
Another goal for the kid has put the league leaders up 1-0 on Chievo Verona and would put the club eight points clear of second place should they hold on. Pogba has surged of late, and it’s no coincidence that Juventus has as well.
Juventus is allergic to losing, as they have just one lone loss all year, but they are prone to dropping points. They drew three of four matches surrounding the Christmas break, and then Pogba happened. He’s scored now in his last three Serie A matches, and when you tack on a Coppa Italia goal for the 21-year-old star in the midst of that as well, Juventus has won four straight. Oh, and Juventus has won every game Pogba has scored in this season across all competitions.
In addition, while he has just six goals on the year, three of them are from outside the box, which ties him for the league lead in that category. Here’s the latest, a left-footed ripper from the top of the key.
He nearly ripped home a second on a ridiculous volley, but it was saved well by Albano Bizzari. No worries, Stephen Lichtsteiner was there to hand Pogba the assist.
Juventus overwhelmed Chievo, holding 62% possession and outshooting them 26-6 (8-1 on target). It’s mind-blowing to think that this kid – yes, kid – is just 21 years old, and Juventus would be insane to let him go. Oh, he also did this earlier today, because scoring goals isn’t all he’s good for.
Sorry for the Vine overload, but…wait, no, I’m not sorry, it was totally worth it.
Juventus at the moment is a whirring mechanical beast in Serie A, and Pogba is one of the most important cogs in the system. Hopefully the club can not only hold onto one of its brightest talents, and make some noise in the Champions League so we can all witness his brilliance.
