He’s not in the same blistering form we saw from last year, but Aron Johannsson still knows how to be in the right place at the right time for his Dutch club.
In his 10th match after returning from injury, Johannsson bagged his third league goal in Alkmaar’s 3-1 win over Heracles to send the club into fifth in the Eredivisie table.
The goal was a tidy little score, as Johannsson’s teammate Nemanja Gudelj attempted an acrobatic bicycle kick from a good 15 yards out, and while his effort lacked solid power, it was directed perfectly to the US forward, and his backheel was perfect to make sure the ball snuck past Heracles goalkeeper Dennis Telgenkamp for the opening goal after just nine minutes. Johannsson was also the beneficiary of some ridiculously poor defending from his mark Mark Jan Fledderus who did nothing to stop the American from getting the final touch.
The win for AZ is the club’s fifth in its last eight, of which they’ve lost just one. Johannsson, last year’s leading scorer for the club, has seen an up and down return, but the team is having a solid go of things with him back in the lineup and they are searching for yet another season in the Europa League.
