Former MLS champion Sporting KC have agreed to terms with Haitian defensive midfielder Soni Mustivar.
The 25-year-old joins SKC taking an international roster spot for the 2015 season, pending a visa and other transfer-specific filings.
Mustivar spent his youth career in France and made 21 appearances for current Ligue 1 side Bastia. He enjoyed a loan stint at Ligue 2’s Orleans from 2010-2011, and for the past three seasons, Mustivar netted three goals in 73 total appearances with Romania’s Petrolul Ploiești.
He was also capped on four occasions for France’s U-20 side in 2009 before changing countries to represent Haiti in 2013.
Most recently, he played three competitions at the 2014 CFU Caribbean Cup in November, allowing his country to snag a third place finish and qualification for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
“I am very excited to join Sporting Kansas City,” Mustivar said in statement. “This is a great team with great fans. I am going to work hard from day one to contribute to the team any way I can.”
Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes believes Mustivar will fortify the squad.
“We are always looking to add quality players to our team and we feel as if we have done that with the addition of Soni,” Vermes said in a statement. “I believe that once he gets acclimated to the way we play, there are some special qualities in his game that will become very apparent.”
Sporting may get a taste of their new signing on opening day, when Vermes and Co. battle the Red Bulls on Mar. 8 at Sporting Park.
