When David Luiz left Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain, he became the world’s most expensive defender.

As Luiz prepares to face his former club midweek during Champions League play, he has revealed one of the main reasons he chose Paris over London.
The story goes back to April of 2014, when Chelsea visited Parc de Princes to take on Zlatan and PSG in the Champions League quarterfinals. During the match, Zlatan did some recruiting as he tried to convince Luiz to join forces.
He was one of the big reasons that I chose to join Paris.
When Chelsea played Paris he said to me during the game, ‘you need to come and play with us next season.’
He is one of the best players in the world, and a great guy.”
Zlatan got what he wanted, as Luiz signed with Paris just two months later. Now teammates, they face the task of taking down Jose Mourinho, whom Zlatan also played under during his time at Inter Milan.
It’s arguably the most exciting matchup in the quarterfinals of Champions League play, as Chelsea sit atop the Premier League facing a PSG side that has only lost twice in Ligue 1 this year. David Luiz will be asked to shut down his former teammates Eden Hazard and Oscar, while Zlatan will look to beat down Kurt Zouma, the young defender who gave the striker fits last season as a member of Saint-Etienne.
