Liverpool and Southampton meet for a top-tier clash from St. Mary’s, live at 11:15am ET on NBCSN or live online at NBC Sports Live Extra.
The big pre-match news is that Daniel Sturridge begins on the bench for Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers likely hopes to rest his legs having just returned from injury. In his place, Raheem Sterling moves back to the front with Jordan Ibe, Philippe Coutinho, and former Saint Adam Lallana in support.
Mamadou Sakho is also a late scratch with a hip problem, requiring the out of form Dejan Lovren to come in. The opportunity for Lovren is a massive one against his old club, as the 25-year-old defender has been one of the season’s biggest disappointments, but has the chance to prove he’s turned things around after appearing just twice in Liverpool’s last nine Premier League matches.
On the other end, Lovren and Lallana’s former teammate Morgan Schneiderlin is available after injury, but starts on the bench. Shane Long is also among the substitutes on his return.
Steven Gerrard remains out for the Reds, while Mario Balotelli is available on the bench yet again after the contentious penalty issue midweek in the Europa League.
Should Southampton hold at home, they would jump both Arsenal and Manchester United into third place in the Premier League table, while Liverpool can go above Tottenham into sixth with three points of their own.
