VIDEO: Rodgers says Liverpool still very much in play for Top 4

Following Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at Anfield, Reds manager Brendan Rodgers was understandably esctatic with his team’s performance. Liverpool controlled most of the second half and got a pair of spectacular goals to reward their work.

Rodgers said the turnaround from their European adventures this week in Turkey was limited, and even with little sleep and little preparation, the team came out on fire.

“By the time the players got together [Friday morning] it was probably about 6:00 in the morning,” Rodgers said. “They slept all Friday and we did some work yesterday to prepare for the game, but to come out and play like that – just relentless – to restrict them to just one shot on target, against a top team, I thought the players were incredible today.”

He also – unprompted – pointed out one player he thought was particularly important in the victory.

“I thought Joe Allen was brilliant,” Rodgers said. “Joe is a player that doesn’t score many goals, he’s not one that creates a lot, but he’s the door that opens everything up – getting on the ball, courageous, composure, I thought he was outstanding in there today with Jordan Henderson.”
