Arsenal made a statement today with a convincing 2-0 win over Everton.
The Gunners were under immense pressure after losing at home in the Champions League to Monaco 3-1 earlier in the week. While the loss gave Arsenal a massive hill to climb in the second leg, their performance was extremely lackluster and raised great questions about the team’s future.
Arsenal responded to the critics with a good showing against Everton in which the manager repeatedly touched on the strong mentality of the players. Wenger specifically mentions the play of Olivier Giroud, who had been thrashed by the media after missing a sitter in the Champions League match against Monaco. Giroud responded with a goal against Everton, much to the delight of his manager who praised the French striker’s work ethic.
With the win Arsenal sit third on the table, one point ahead of Manchester United for the final berth in the Champions League.
