In the past few weeks, Sporting KC chief executive officer Robb Heineman had responded to rumors about “RVDV” on Twitter by saying he was going to see him play and that “nothing was imminent”,
Now this from Germany:
Officials from MLS club Sporting Kansas City were in Germany this weekend to talk to Rafael van der Vaart about a possible move to the US.— Daniel Busch (@dan_bu) March 1, 2015
Van der Vaart is out of contract in summer and HSV won't extend the deal. Offers from Italy, Spain and possibly Ajax expected as well.— Daniel Busch (@dan_bu) March 1, 2015
Surely Dom Dwyer would be excited about this, though it would put a crimp in any DP plans he had. Being on the receiving end of balls from Graham Zusi and Van der Vaert would up his value considerably.
KC only has two Designated Players — Matt Besler and Zusi — and RVDV would be a nice match provided the money works for both parties. That said, he’ll still have plenty of options across Europe, so it’s merely a competition at this point.
